os-tans! first spawning on futaba channel, the first os-tan is me-tan based on windows me and the first illustration of me-tan was uploaded in 2003. Soon after, more os-tans were created and then a collaborative artbook along with four minifigures were released based on the most popular os-tans.

a couple figures have been made for os-tans!(all of which im searching so hard for but i'm pretty sure it's impossible to find one under 80 bucks) i think they're all really cute

my favorite is 2k-tan, but windows xp home & 98-tan are cool too. also apparently os-tan's boob sizes are based on their ram requirements? it's futaba channel, so.

vis-tan, aka windows vista doesn't have a solid ONE design, apparently. it has multiple popular designs, but unlike me-tan or other os-tans nobody can really agree on a single design to go on for whatever reason.

os-tans are definitely known outside of japan, but honestly aside from tumblr and obviously 4chan, i haven't really seen anybody draw or just talk about them. obviously, because they originated on a japanese website they'll be more popular with people who go on that website (aka mostly japanese people), i wish more people talked about them in general. are os-tans kinda dumb and just an internet meme? sure but also they're pretty cute, so who cares.
